Thabo Mosia testimony on Senzo Meyiwa case
It is now eleven years since the killing of Senzo Meyiwa took place in Vosloorus. Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed on the 26th of October 2014. Five accused are behind bars following the incident: Muzi Sibiya, Mafia Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Ntuli. According to reports on that day, later, Senzo Meyiwa was going to attend a party for his teammate Roi Mahamutsa.
Police Forensic Investigator Sergeant Thabo Mosia was the first state witness to testify in Pretoria High Court. In court, Mosia said he received a phone call four hours later to attend the crime scene at Khumalo's house in Vosloorus. Meyiwa died when he was visiting his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo. Mosia's duties are: assessing the crime scene, identifying and recording exhibits, swabbing evidence for doors, and handles for touch evidence.
According to him, he chose not to swab the kitchen door that was allegedly used by the intruders for entry and exit. He also chose not to test gunpowder on people who were in the house when Meyiwa was shot and killed. Mosia also mentioned that he didn't go beyond the point that was shown to him by General Philani Ndlovu. Mosia said he called the necessary team to assist on the crime scene .
During the crossed examination by Advocate Zandile Mshololo who is representing accused number five , it was put to him that he failed to perfom his duties as police forensic investigator as he did not investigate the counter at the kitchen , next to the door and even on top of the counter . Mosia in reply said he did the preliminary investigations. " I concentrated on the visible exhibits that were on the floor and I further investigated . There was nothing more I can do until the task team arrived .
" Only the thing that I did is , to secure the hat and project tile and bullet jacket . I handed back the crime scene to Brigadier Ndlovu . He acknowledged that I was leaving . Ndlovu was the one who was pointing where im supposed to take pictures . I did not asked him where did he got the information . As it was the crime scene I approached it as an ordinary crime scene . I know how to approach a crime scene ; I wouldn't know whether Brigadier Ndlovu was pointing me at right spots.
" That's the reason I went to contact the crime scene management to come and assist me . Since I have explained here in court , reasons for not processing crime scene completely ; i had to be assisted and I had to abide by the rules whenever there's such case or come across such case you must do this and that . Actually I was not even supposed to start that crime scene . I noticed those exhibits on the floor at the kitchen , there was no way I can wait for the task team . Leaving exhibits on the floor . I was just making them safe , wait for the task team to arrive so that we can attend the crime scene .
