Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Sipho Chaine said coach Hugo Broos has told them about the importance of qualifying for the World Cup. Bafana Bafana will host Nigeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers match on Tuesday in Bloemfontein. Last week Bafana Bafana won 3-0 against Lesotho and Nigeria won 1-0 against Rwanda.
Speaking to Tholakele Mganga on EWN, Chaine said, "I'm honoured, extra special to be back in my hometown. The coach spoke about the game and to qualify will be extra special. I have always been number one, but I understand the role that I'm playing now very well. I took it upon myself that I'm not playing (in the Bafana Bafana).
"Somebody else who is playing is not his responsibility that I'm not playing. Ronwen is my mentor and he is doing things that he has been doing over the years. So, I can only improve and learn on things he does. I think he is 33 and I'm turning 29; for me to say I wanna play, I'm not in the space to be against him. He is the captain of the nation; he is the one who leads us. I'm there to help him get better.
"Hugo Broos is a very funny coach; he can make you realize different environments; he can see the difference between Lesotho and Nigeria. He can read the mood in the room."
