KwaZulu Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said the police will go all out to protect vulnerable groups, including people who are living with disabilities. Speaking during the Festive Season Campaign, he said, "In the province of KwaZulu Natal, the idea of pens down, closing parties is known; especially in the Durban region and also in neighboring districts like Ilembe district."

"We are issuing a stern warning against those Grade 12 learners who are busy with exams, to focus on completing Grade 12 and on higher education next year. We understand that they are going to attend these parties and it must not be used to end their lives. These parties must be treated as parties, not as weapons that cause others to be victims. Some of them are underage to attend and to consume alcohol.

"We are urging parents to discourage their children from risking their lives; they should behave accordingly. We don't want a child to be in conflict with the law, because our police will be out in full force. We will make sure that we don't negotiate with lawbreakers. Our province is the place for tourists and the majority of South Africans. Traffic stretches during this period till January. The province shares borders with countries like Lesotho, Mozambique, and Eswatini which will see an increase in traffic.

"People are coming into the province, others outside the province. We are going to have a lot of activities on the road. We have developed a plan for these movements. Those who want to drink; they must get a sober driver to drive vehicles."
