Manqoba Mngqithi calling for VAR
Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi is calling for the implementation of VAR. This comes after Orlando Pirates' win against Carling All Stars at Moses Mabhida in Durban on Saturday. According to Mngqithi, his side was supposed to be given three penalties. Speaking to the members of the media after the match, Mngqithi said, "In my opinion, on any other day we could have won the game. I think our three penalty shots in the first half belonged to us, but unfortunately, when you lost Petersen in goals because of an injury, then it made our life a little bit difficult."
"Now I think that passing was quite good and field occupation was quite good; and we had a lot of verticality and movement that touched the box. That is where I think we created the penalties that I'm talking about; because from where I was sitting, I'm honestly sure that they were penalty shots, and if I'm wrong, I would be happy to apologize. I have been calling for that for a long time, because even VAR does make mistakes, but at least there's exposure to those mistakes. We are able to reflect on those mistakes. Sometimes in the PSL, if this team is affected by a decision, you can't hear an uproar."
"For me, I think VAR will just help to expose those things and to keep track of those mistakes. Sometimes the same referee makes mistakes for the same matches or teams. And you don't want that in football. We want honest mistakes , and I always accept that because I know sometimes I also think its an offside and its not . It happens in football but i think with VAR we will eliminate the question mark . And you will say referee ; can you come and see this , and tell us , you really think its not a foul . Then if he says its not a foul , then we move on but atleast its there " .
