Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy and his assistant Vasili Manousakis react after beating DR Congo 1-0 on Sunday night. The two countries met in the CHAN tournament match at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi. The only goal in the match was scored by Austin Odhiambo. Harambee Stars is in group A with Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia.

After the match, McCarthy said, "I'm very proud of my team, many of them, it's the first time that they have stepped out to such a big stage. So, the fact that they played against one of the tournament's favorites in my eyes, this is a team with so much experience, DRC, they have won this tournament twice, so they know what's in the past, so they know what winning is about."

"They know what it is about playing in this tournament and for us who are very novice to this, the fact that we didn't let the nerves affect us, but once we settled down, I think we played some really good football against a team that's organized and well prepared. So, yeah, I was very proud of my players."

Vasili Manousakis said, "We kick off our CHAN tournament with an important win. Lots of work still to do. A special thanks to our amazing fans who supported us and created an amazing atmosphere at Kasarani Stadium."

Manousakis is the former Cape Town Spurs coach in South Africa. The 52-year-old coach started his coaching at Ajax Cape Town under 19, working with Duncan Crowie.
