Orlando Pirates have managed to win their opening match in the CAF Champions League against Lesotho side Lioli FC. The match was played in Bloemfontein on Saturday afternoon. In the first half, the match ended 0-0 after Ezikamagebhula missed opportunities to score. Thabiso Lebitso received a great pass from Sipho Mbule but failed to take a chance one-on-one with the keeper.
A minute later, Oswin Appollis received a pass from Relebohile Mofokeng, but the opportunity was wasted. In the second half, Orlando Pirates came back strong; Tshegofatso Mabasa got his brace in the 53rd and 57th minutes. Oswin Appollis ended the match in the 93rd minute to give Ezikamagebhula the advantage going into the second leg at Orlando Stadium.
Lioli FC coach Bongani Maseko told SABC Sport that they lost the match because of their mistakes; not that Orlando Pirates were too good on the day. Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou said, "We respected them; congratulations to the boys."
