Former Ukhozi FM radio presenters Linda Sibiya, Mr. Magic, Mandla Malakoane, known as Radio Encane, and Ngizwe Mchunu shared their radio experience on the podcast with Ayanda Msweli.
Mr. Magic left Ukhozi FM in the year 2014 to join Vuma FM as breakfast show host. Mandla Malakoane left Ukhozi FM to become a member of Parliament. Malakoane said, "Radio has got the power; on air as a presenter, you can build and you can destroy. You are very lucky if you are working in the environment that builds people. When you speak on radio, you need to sound as if you are directly talking to the listener."
Linda Sibiya said, "Radio is the voice; without me putting my voice behind the microphone, it cannot be considered as radio. Remember, adverts and music can play alone but without a presenter putting the voice on it, it can't be radio. When I first arrived at Ukhozi FM, I was told that I'll be working with Mandla Malakoane on the midnight show. On that day, I arrived early in the morning around 08h20 because I didn't want them to change their mind. When I got there, someone from Ukhozi FM management asked me why I was at the station. Then I said I'm expected to be on air at midnight."
"Presenters must stop copying content on social media and bringing it on radio; we as presenters are the ones who are supposed to feed social media with content," Ngizwe Mchunu said. "When I visited Ukhozi FM, Linda Sibiya and DJ Sgqemeza helped me a lot to get the job at Ukhozi FM."
