The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, Mr. Julius Malema, has been found guilty by the East London Magistrate Court on Wednesday morning. Malema and his former bodyguard, Andriaan Synman, were facing charges on firearm discharge. The court ruled that his bodyguard is found not guilty. The matter has adjourned till the 23rd of January 2026 for a pre-sentence report.

Outside the court, Malema was addressing his followers. He said, "We are almost at the end because today the verdict found us guilty; but she released accused number two, which is highly appreciated. We know from the beginning that they were looking for me, not accused number two. They were just playing games, and today they came out openly. As the revolutionary, going to prison or death is a badge of honor.

"We cannot be scared of prison or death for revolutionaries. So whatever they want to do, they must know will never retreat us, and the ideas of our seven cardinal pillars of the EFF. Fighters, you must not be detained; we are going to fight this to the constitutional court. After sentencing, we will immediately appeal so that we can go to the Higher Court because we think the judgment is faulty.

"The strategy is always: you must try to charge Malema with everything. One day maybe we will find the racist judge who will find him guilty. We will be strengthening our legal team by bringing Ngcukaitobi. They say accused number two gave me the firearm; now they are releasing him. Why are you not releasing me when you released a person who allegedly gave me the firearm?"
