Jose Riveiro joins AIK Stockholm

The former Orlando Pirates and Al Ahly coach Jose Riveiro finally found new home in Sweden . The 50 years old coach joined Orlando Pirates in 2022/2023 season . On his arrival in South Africa he was undermined by some of the fans calling him "plumber " but his efforts proved his critics wrong . Riveiro managed to win trophies with Orlando Pirates in two seasons beating Mamelodi Sundowns in th MTN 8 final and AmaZulu . Riveiro is also a former coach of Finland clubs ; FC Inter Tuku , HJK Helsinki , FC Honka . In Spain he worked for Celta Vigo development team .

After parting ways with Orlando Pirates he joined the Egyptian side Al Ahly . In the FIFA Club World Cup he drew 4-4 against Portugal club Porto , lost 2-0 against Brazilian side Palmeiras . He also drew 0-0 against Major League Soccer side Inter Miami in the United States of America . After failing to reached the knockout stages in the FIFA Club World Cup , Al Ahly management decided to cut ties with the coach . A lot of speculations were made on whether he might consider to join Kaizer Chiefs after Amakhosi parted ways with coach Nasreddine Nabi . 

Riveiro made it clear in number of occasions that in South Africa he will never worked for another club except going back to Orlando Pirates . On the 16th January 2026 , Sweden premier league club AIK Stockholm announced Riveiro as a new head coach . Following his appointment Riveiro said " I'm very proud and happy to be part of a club that truly lives and breathes football . AIK is a club with a strong identity , high ambitions and enormous passion around the team . Now iam really looking forward to getting started , building relationships and working closely with the players and my colleagues to develop the team every day and take the next step both individually and collectively " .
