JJ Tabane on leaving eNCA

Television presenter Onkgopotse JJ Tabane told SMWX podcast reasons to part ways with news channel eNCA. He said, "the Managing Director is the one who recruited me and his exact words were, come and do your pretty much stuff. We won't tell you what to do. He knew how to put a preamble in front of recruiting me. He won't tell me what to do.

"I'll be lying if I told you that in these five years we have serious arguments about who must come, who must talk, and what must I say on the platform. Like any other show of that nature at some point it becomes uncomfortable; otherwise you shouldn't exist. It's like the first editor who gave me a chance to be a columnist, said 'if your columnist doesn't make people move uncomfortable in their journey, then don't write it.

"What's the point? So, does the same thing in a TV show at some point? The bosses say, can you just slow down a little bit, just give us a break. I enjoyed my time there; I have made the necessary impact. It was my time to do something else, and something else is cooking. I'm not in a hurry; I'm taking a break. I'm now able to be at home for dinner, which I've not been able to do for years."
