Hugo Broos on Fawaaz Basadien

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos gave reasons on why he decided not to call Mamelodi Sundowns defender Fawaaz Basadien into the Bafana Bafana squad. Broos has announced the squad to play against Lesotho and Nigeria for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Bloemfontein. 

Speaking on SABC Sport, Broos said, "When you change club, first of all, you need to adapt from the club; there are different rules, a different way of playing, so everything is different than the club where you come from. I think that's the problem with Fawaaz. So, he came and didn't play so well; he was out of the team. Yesterday (Wednesday) they took him out again after the first half.

"I think it's a question of confidence. When I see Fawaaz playing now and when I saw him playing last year, it's different; and then you have to decide as a coach, not to take him and take the guy who plays always like Kabini; he plays all the games. So, you know this one is ready and it's a difficult choice because Fawaaz was always with us.

"That's what it is; as a coach, you have to take the decision." On Wednesday night against Kaizer Chiefs, Basadien was taken out in the 56th minute for Aubrey Modiba.
