FIFA sanctioned Bafana Bafana

FIFA have taken a decision to dock points from Bafana Bafana for fielding an ineligible player, which is Tebogo Mokoena. With that, the match between Bafana Bafana and Lesotho has been forfeited. Bafana Bafana has lost three points and three goals; with that, they have now dropped to second after leading with 17 points. Benin is now leading the group in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The South African Football Association has issued a statement to apologize to the nation for this administration oversight. SAFA promised to reflect on steps to take conclusions on the qualifying campaign. SAFA confirmed that they are going to appeal the decision.

Regarding the decision taken by SAFA to challenge the decision, the former Banyana Banyana defender Simphiwe Dludlu said on Supersport TV Extra Time show, "let's not waste more money on it, if we are guilty."
