Ex - Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove on AFCON
The former Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove is playing for his country Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco . On Sunday afternoon Mozambique beat Gabon 3-2 to put themselves in a good position to qualify for the next round . Dove joined Iraqi side Al Quwa Al Jawiya in August 2025 after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs . Speaking on SABC Sport in Morocco , Dove said " i think African Football overall there's this stigma of not going into the game with guaranteed results . Im happy for South Africa because as I always say ; South Africa is my second home .
" Seeing them doing well flourish it , it pleases me . Its up to us others to do whatever we can, to get better results . So I mean I would love to see South African countries doing well in this tournament ; because it shows that we are really progressing " . The former Mozambique national team striker and Jomo Cosmos Tico Tico Bucuane said " i think South Africa they must take themselves as i know them . People don't think like that from what they have been doing in the last tournament . Even now they played very good , maybe some patches wasn't so impressive but they always won at the end of the game .
" Champions do that even when they don't perform at the highest level but always get the results . Im really hoping that they can go all the way . I sympathize with South Africa , I spent all my career in South Africa . I think its a very good team , with good coach who believes in youngsters . He doesn't doubt them , he put them on the deep and they don't dissapoint him . They have been performing very well , I would be interested to see South Africa going to represent our zone well . I believe they can play the way they are playing ; anything is possible . Last year in the Cosafa under 20 I was watching the South African players .
" Now we have Mbokazi you know he is on the Orlando Pirates first team and is in the national team , starting and I mean the way he is playing is amazing. A year ago he was just playing for under 20 . You could see by that , you know the future is bright . Theres many players who are young and good . Theres Nkotha is doing very well . Theres many players in South Africa so they just have to believe in themselves . I think the coach and other coaches told them that . They have to believe in themselves and they are performing well . They have in the tournament in their legs . Most of them is the second tournament , they have to get the experience so anything can happen " .
