The leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church Prophet Sheppard Bushiri told his congregation that his arrest in South Africa was based on money . Speaking during live broadcasting , Bushiri said " The case in court has gone in our favour . In 2015 me and my wife gone to live in South Africa . We opened the ministry and offcourse by the grace of all mighty God , it became successful . The success of this ministry was the great joy to God , Kingdom and great achievement in the body of Christ .

" However it also had a lot of implications as the scripture says . We had to pray ; this came through persecution , betrayal and not only that but also through various moments , where our names are tarnished through mere campaigns that was lodged against us . In 2016 I was approached by group of police officers , I called them corrupt officers . They did not hide their intentions through this but speak that we had to pay R2 million rands , if we had to stay in South Africa .

" This was apparently known as protection fees and this issue became a very serious issue . It might be very important for me to remind you ; to remember at some point in time. When I stood up from the pulpit to talk about this to say , I was made by this police officers they are saying they need money . If I don't give them money they will come here in church . I then said to them , im not scared . You remember at church when we were harassed with helicopter ? , that came at lowest level just to scare me .

" At the very same time , we had police van at the church , parked outside. All they said was , would you release money or you arrested ; it was a sad day . I took the initiative to go and meet with the Commissioner of Police , Genera Sithole . It was on Sunday afternoon . I had a meeting with him at Sourthen Sun Hotel in Pretoria to raise this issue . In his speech has advised us to beef up our security citing that he was aware that in South Africa there's serious cartel ; and that if they don't get what they want they may even assassinate us " .
