Bushiri on money issues with the SAPS
The leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering, Prophet Sheppard Bushiri, told his followers that the South African Police Service demanded money from him. Bushiri was speaking during a live broadcast: "General Sithole refers us to the Minister of Intelligence. I was told that it becomes personal if we don't pay the required money. We resorted to have a meeting with the Minister. We lodged the complaint to him."
"However, he called the Directorate of Intelligence, and if I may not be. To my surprise, despite all the allegations against the Police, nothing was done, nothing was made. It became personal; you remember somebody coming to church with a pistol and confessing that he was sent to shoot us. It is when we decided to flee to Malawi, and I met the Malawi president to explain the whole issue. The mission was to plant us when they come. IPID must arrest them."
"While we were in prison, my wife was told by a nurse that there's an injection set aside, so that she will slowly die. I remember in the cells at night, a very big scorpion was thrown in my room. We had a tip to say 'we have been sent to kill you. Please change your car.' It is when we survived attempts in Sandton in a filling station. We opened the case and it was dismissed before it started. All cases were dismissed by the Magistrate Court. We then decided to take it to the High Court."
