The former Minister of Police Bheki Cele appeared before the parliament administration hoc Committee to testify regarding the allegations made by KwaZulu Natal Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Cele said, "When I was in Port Elizabeth to launch Amabherede, I got the phone call from the SAFA President Danny Jordaan. He was saying there's a crisis that is coming into then, I should see him with immediate effect."

"I flew from Port Elizabeth to OR Tambo and found him with members from FIFA. There was a problem that the World Cup is being taken away from South Africa. It was around March. The complaint was that there was a lot of crime in South Africa, and two countries were ready to host, which were Australia and Germany. It was on the score that I assembled the team of General and the police."

"They went to Zurich to make the presentation. To be honest, the nation does not know that the SAPS saved 2010. Without us going to Zurich and making that presentation, we would not have had the World Cup. The Britons were pushing that, and if they hadn't come, most of the countries would have followed them. Later we were supported by Brazil."
