Bafana Bafana beat Angola in AFCON 2025
Bafana Bafana have started their journey in the AFCON 2025 with a win , after beating 2-1 on Monday night at Marrakech in Morocco . Bafana Bafana Coach Hugo Broos started the game with Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Siyabonga Ngezane in the central defence . He brought back Yaya Sithole in the middle to play with Teboho Mokoena . Upfront he started with the Burnley striker lyle Foster and Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis . In the first half Angola created lot of chances as they came with the plan to catch Bafana Bafana on the counter . In the 21st minute Oswin Appollis opened the scoring for Bafana Bafana .
Unfortunately Bafana Bafana defence were to too slow to react from the cross , Freddy Show got the equalizer in the 35th minute for Angola . Show is on loan from Israel premier league club Maccabi Haifa to Turkish club Kocaelispor . Angola coach Patrice Beaumelle indicated prior to the game , that Bafana Bafana is playing with speed . Indeed in the 51st minute Orlando Pirates speedy winger Tshepang Moremi scored but the VAR ruled offside . In the second half coach Hugo Broos made changes he replaced Mohau Nkota for Tshepang Moremi .In the 78th minute Lyle Foster scored the winning goal for Bafana Bafana ending in a 2-1 win .
Bathusi Aubaas came in for Sipho Mbule ,Elias Mokwana came to replace Oswin Appollis . In the first half Aubrey Modiba and Yaya Sithole got the yellow cards . Angola coach also made changes in the second half ; Mabululu came in for Nzola , Wilson for Gelson Dala , Benni Mukendi for the goal scorer Fredy , Randy Nteka for Maestro Chico Banza for Zito Luvumbo . In the first half A.R. Carneiro got the yellow card and in the second half Randy Nteka got the yellow card in the 88th minute .
Lyle Foster won the man of the match and he said to the SABC Sport " its a nice trophy , the most important thing is , we got the three points " . SABC Sport analyst who is a former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Doctor Khumalo said " winning the first game is very important because it ease the pressure . Angolan keeper is 39 years old and I said before the game , if they can bend balls he will struggle to make saves and exactly it happened . Angola is not a bad team at all . After we scored they put pressure on us . As for Moremi he came and gave us what we expected from him " .
Tshepang Moremi said " I was not an easy game. The coach told me to be ready because I was going to play . In this tournament its tough , it was not easy . The mood in the team is very good ; we are here to work , we are not on vacation " . Bafana Bafana Coach Hugo Broos said " I wasn't pleased in the first half. After scoring scoring we let Angola come to us " .
