Kaizer Chiefs started the new season well, after beating Stellenbosch FC 2-0 at Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Stellenbosch FC were dominating till the PSL referee Eugen Mdluli gave Siviwe Nkwali a red card in the 13th minute. Amakhosi benefited from the free kick when Nkosingiphile Ngcobo scored in the 14th minute. 

Amakhosi came into the game without the head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who went to Tunisia for family issues. Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef took over and Cedric Kaze. In the second half, both coaches made changes; Ashley Du Preez came in for Naledi Hlongwane, Sibongiseni Mthethwa in for Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

Gaston Sirino in for Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi in for Wandile Duba, Siphesihle Ndlovu in for Thabo Cele.  Kaizer Chiefs captain Inacio Miguel and Ashley Du Preez both got yellow cards in the game. In the 94th minute, Mdaka brought down Ashley Du Preez inside the box, and the referee awarded Amakhosi a penalty. Glody Makabi Lilepo scored the penalty to give Amakhosi a 2-0 win.
