Following the sacking of the former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro, Egyptian giants Al Ahly have appointed the former German Bundesliga club manager Jess Thorup to replace the Spanish guitar. The Danish manager signed a two-and-a-half-year deal. In the last two games, Al Ahly have won 4-2 against Kahrabaa Ismailia and 2-1 in the derby against Zamalek.
It remained unseen how long the coach will last at the club, considering the ongoing interference by the club legends. Jose Riveiro's contract was terminated just after seven matches, after a defeat against CAF Champions League champions Pyramids. Swiss manager Marcel Koller parted ways with Al Ahly after both parties agreed to end their relationship.
The former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane also parted ways with the club after winning the league and two CAF Champions League titles, beating Zamalek and Kaizer Chiefs.
